The Arsenal fan who leapt up to celebrate Shkodran Mustafi’s disallowed goal suffered double frustration after his premature jubilation led to him being kicked out of the ground. Mustafi thought he had given Arsenal the lead in the 75th minute when his header siled past Thibaut Courtois, and he wasn’t the only one.

The German defender wheeled away in celebration and was joined by a travelling supporter, who jumped over the barriers.

Both men then realised they had jumped the gun, however, when they saw the linesman’s flag was raised. The Asenal fan was then escorted out of the ground by stewards.

The game’s other late flash point saw David Luiz sent off for a challenge on Sead Kolasinac , but Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte believes the Brazilian was fouled before the incident.

Luiz was shown a straight red card late on by referee Michael Oliver for a poor challenge on Kolasinac which saw both benches rise to their feet.

The Brazil defender, who had earlier been booked for catching Laurent Koscielny with an attempted overhead kick, now faces a three-match suspension which would include the Premier League visit of Manchester City.

Conte said: “It’s very important to see what happened before the David Luiz tackle. For sure there was a foul. The referee has to use the whistle. If he stops the play before I think it (wouldn’t) happen.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger felt it was the correct decision to dismiss Luiz.

“It was excessive force, yes. I think Kolasinac was not completely on his feet,” Wenger said. “Even Luiz will accept there was a big distance and he went in too strong.”
