While Liverpool continue to deal with the fallout from Philippe Coutinho’s £142m transfer to Barcelona, the future of another ace became the topic of speculation this week.

Reports in Italy had hinted that Real Madrid would answer to Barca’s capture of Coutinho by starting an audacious offer for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian international has been on fire since making a £36.9m transfer to Anfield in the summer, and his experience of 23 goals in 29 matches has made most of Europe sit up and take notification.

The thought has reached the end where Salah himself has felt the need to negotiate – and Liverpool fans can rest easy, as the 25-year-old has gone to shut down the conversation that he might depart the team after only a few months.

Mohamed Salah after this speculation on Twitter: “There has been a lot of false news recently, but I will comment”

The only striker who looks like he might be moving from Merseyside in this window is Daniel Sturridge. Reports on Thursday night proposed that the England international wants to leave to secure the first-team football and a place in England’s 2018 World Cup team – and while Liverpool are prepared to sell the 28-year-old, they will only do so if their £30m asking price is met.
