Following a week of speculation surrounding the inevitable arrival of AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger at Premier League champions Chelsea, the German has this afternoon been pictured putting pen to paper on his contract with the Blues.

No-nonsense stopper
Rudiger, a powerful German international, showed his versatility by lining out at both at centre-half and right back for the Giallorossi last season, a trait which Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is reportedly very keen on.

Naturally a central defender, the 24-year-old arrived at Roma on a permanent basis from Stuttgart last summer, having spent the previous season on loan in the Italian capital.

New Blue
Following the collapse of Roma defender Kostas Manolas’ move to Zenit St. Petersburg last week, the opportunity of coaxing one of the capital side’s in-demand stoppers re-emerged for Chelsea, with the club taking full advantage.

Though the club have yet to officially announce the transfer, the following photo was leaked this afternoon, showing the 17-time capped international putting pen to paper on his deal with the English top flight champions.

The 24-year-old’s arrival at Stamford Bridge will put to bed (at least for the time being), talk of a transfer ‘curse’ among Chelsea fans, with the club having been heavily linked with the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alex Sandro and Virgil Van Dijk, none of whom look close to joining Antonio Conte’s side at this moment in time.
